Sen. Salazar v. Focus on the Family Action and FRC Action

Dear Sen. Salazar,

I am writing to let you know that I support your stand against Judge Alito as a nominee to the Supreme Court.

Alito comes to the nomination with a stated agenda: to overturn Roe v. Wade. It's not just a matter of his personal opposition to abortion, which is a separate matter from how he would carry out his official duties. He is on record outlining a strategy to overrule what is considered settled law amongst the mainstream of judicial thought, and he has a record of working to curb reproductive rights at the state level.

He has made a series of other legal opinions which show his radical activism in the courts, as well. Judge Alito is too far outside the mainstream to find a place on the Supreme Court. You are right, America does deserve better.

America needs you to continue to oppose the nomination of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court.

Thank you,
Julie O.

This was in response to the full-page ad placed by Focus on the Family Action and FRC Action in the Rocky Mountain News. The ad said "America deserves better than what we got here," over a picture of Sen. Salazar. They're upset at how disrespectful a thing that was to say about someone (throwing it back in Salazar's face), and the ad goes on to outline Judge Alito's qualifications, urging readers to call the senator.

Which I immediately did. I thought it pretty funny, too, that the people who would be calling the senator's office to support Alito would be driven even further down the road of insanity by the fact that half the recorded message was in Spanish. And I personally find it much more disrespectful to start a rumor that a judge who has worked all his life to help children is a child molester simply because he has a D rather than R behind his name. Jesus did teach that the ends justify the means, and that it's alright to lie about your neighbor for political gain.
