Paying Off Debt is Threat to Homeland Security

I heard this on the radio this morning. A Texas couple wanted to pay down credit card debt, so made an extra large payment. But they noticed that their balance hadn't reduced, so they called the credit card company to find out why.

After being bounced up the chain, they finally discovered it was because making payments larger than your usual is a worrisome sign, your account gets flagged, and you are reported to Homeland Security. The funds for the payment are not released until you have been checked out.

My husband and I just made an extra large payment on a credit card, which I noticed had taken awhile to clear our account (well, more interest for our checking account, I guess). Hopefully, now that we've been cleared once by Homeland Security, we'll sail through security checkpoints at the grocery store.
