The hysterical, overblown rantings of the RWNJs have gotten into Amanda Marcotte's head like squirming larva,
... it was creating a situation where I felt that every time I coughed, I was risking the Edwards campaign.
so she resigned from the Edwards campaign.
I can understand why. There was so much attention on her that she felt like a distraction rather than a benefit.
But, really, she was acting as a temporary shield against the slime. The other major presidential contenders are getting smeared on their own merits, and Edwards was being slimed because of Amanda Marcotte. Now the rightwing attack dogs can focus on Edwards himself. The furor would have died down after a couple of months.
Amanda, they're going to find some faux controversy to pin on Edwards. You might as well have stayed.
To paraphrase John Bolton's reaction to the Bush Administration's "appeasement" of North Korea:
“I am very disturbed by this resignation,” Julie O. told the internet tubes. “It sends exactly the wrong signal to would-be RWNJs around the internets: 'If we hold out long enough, wear down the liberal bloggers, eventually you get rewarded,' in this case with the resignation of a liberal campaign blogger who used naughty words."
